As the idea of founding a GAMM Junior Research Group in Braunschweig gradually took shape over the past weeks and months, the time had finally come in September 2023 to bring it to life. Many other German cities already had GAMM youth groups successfully fostering connections among young researchers in mathematics and engineering sciences.
However, the goal of this new group was not only to create a platform for scientific discussions but also to unlock financial support from GAMM. With this in mind, a small group of early-career researchers set out to convince more PhD candidates and students to join, and soon, the minimum number of founding members was reached.
At the first official meeting, the focus was on putting the founding vision into writing and drafting a common set of statutes. The meeting was attended not only by the founding members but also by Prof. Faßbender, the local GAMM representative at TU Braunschweig. With her guidance, the group was able to appoint an initial board that would oversee the group's development once officially founded.
By the end of the meeting, most formalities had been settled, and the application for recognition as an official GAMM youth group was ready to be submitted to the GAMM board.
